The safe way to watch the Sun! |
A brilliant diamond ring, just before second contact! The Moon is coming from below, due west. |
The middle corona was symmetrical. |
Jupiter and Saturnus were easily spotted with the naked eye.
My observing was done on a roof at Jul's plot, not that ready for use, as can be seen. The purpose was to watch the shadow of the Moon, but the air was not transparent enough.
Amateur astronomy at Drakensberg |

I had the opportunity to use a cameradrive (courtesy Hans Kronkvist) to get this nice picture of the Southern Cross and Eta Carinae. Also the Coalsack is prominent. 50 mm @ 1600 ASA & 4 min. |
Quite a sight for a Northerner! The centre of our Galaxy at zenith. Mars as bright and red as ever. 20 mm @ 1600 ASA & 8 min.
The SMC was an easy object, as well as 47 Tucane. Later also the LMC made us happy. In my telescope, everything was outstanding to observe that night. 50 mm @ 1600 ASA & 4 min. |
