FC4 Modding 101 by bontainer

For those of you who have never modded Far Cry games here is a (I hope) simple tutorial for changing gunsights:



Just think about zipping and unzipping files, the process is nearly the same.


Before you start this, please make a backup of the files


patch_hd

patch_hd.fat


They are located in your far cry 4/data_win32 directory. 


If anything goes wrong you should be able do undo any damage with these two files.




You will need the gibbed dunia2 tools, the latest release is "dunia2-r179_b115"

You can download them from the nexus forum... http://www.nexusmods.com/farcry3/mods/86/?

Unpack them into a folder and open it, open the subdirectory bin and keep it open!

Now open the far cry 4/data_win32 folder in a new window!

Drag the file patch_hd into the window you left open (bin) and move it over the Gibbed.Dunia2.Unpack executable.
A folder in your "far cry 4/data_win32" with the name "patch_hd_unpack" will be generated.

Now copy any data you want to integrate into that folder.

E.g. if it's Ceano sights, copy the folder graphics into the patch_hd_unpack directory

Now drag the patch_hd_unpack directory over the Gibbed.Dunia2.Pack executable in the bin window you left open, as a result two new files will appear in the far cry 4/data_win32 directory.

Delete the patch_hd and patch_hd.fat files and rename the two new files with the names of the deleted files.


Done.
