Gothenburg 1000, 2-3 December 2006

Many of you have probably read race stories or seen results on the Sveslot pages. Here comes a short story with some images.

The annual Gothenburg 1000 race was once again hosted by the club of GO-69. Track and place were Partille outside Gothenburg.
Contestants from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Great Britain were present.

Eurosport 24

We then moved to sunday and the Eurosport 24 class. Here we ran qualifying, heats and one main.  34 cars were in the field.

Janne Ekman were fastest in qualifying 4,210. Lars Norkjaer 4,300 and Michael Landrud 4,358

After the heats were driven we could see that the British drivers seem to favor the Eurosport class having all three of their drivers in the main. Denmark had also all their drivers (1) in the main leaving only four spots for Swedish drivers.

The main saw more drama then in the other classes. Many drivers were fast early on but ran into some sort of problem.
Brian, on purple lane, took the lead in front of Graham Woodward and Michael Landrud.

Brian crashed into a car in the second heat and got his bodywork into the gears which sent him to the pits. Throughout the race it happened three times but he fought back.
Graham took over the lead.
In the third heat Michael Landrud had the lead and after an impressive run in the fourth heat with yet one of Brians "body into gear back to pits" Michael seemed to be on his way to victory.

A gear change for Michael in the seventh heat shouldn't have caused any concern but some problems that meant it took a little bit longer time than expected saw things change letting Brian get closer to Michael.
In the last heat Brian drove his best lap total and were able to pass Michael with one lap. At the same time Janne Ekman on red also drove his best heat and came within three laps of victory.
