Czechoslovakia was the first country that was occupied by Germany against its wishes. Europe was not willing to wage war for this crime. But a forc eof Czechoslovakians escaped their country and would fight their enemy, the Germans, wherever possible. Small skirmishes in Polish Campaign were followed by seeking refuge in neutral Rumania. From there on, the Czechoslovak Legion was evacuated to France. Here too, the Czechoslovaks were commited when the Germans were close to complete victory.
Yet, the Czechoslovaks continued their struggle to liberate their country. In the Middle-East they fought alongside the British in Operation Exporter. Then the Czechoslovaks became part of the famous garrison of Tobruk. They helped holding the port, and breaking its siege in Operation Crusader. After these adventures, the Czechoslovak brigade was used in France to capture the German-held port of Dunkirk. However, the Germans proved to be a worthy and excellent opponent despite years of fighting. The war ended with the Czechoslovaks still besieging Dunkirk, and finally accepting its surrender. In the days immediately following the war, a small force had been send through Germany to enter Czechoslovak territory again. A warm welcome in Prague was to be attended!

Fighting in Poland, the Netherlands (where it suffered havy losses) and at Sevastopol on Crimea, the division would later find itself on Crete, being engaged in the post-Italian collapse race for the Aegean islands. Pulled back from Greece in 1944, the division fought partisan and Bulgarian forces, acting as a rear guard of the German forces in the Balkans, allowing them to retreat without being surrounded.

Towards the end of summer 1943, the Germans had finally cleared Great Britain of resistance. With the Soviet Union already defeated and Churchill and Roosevelt still defying the Third Reich from the other side of the Atlantic, Hitler turned his eyes even further west. The joint axis navy is too weak to directly face the Canadian, US and remants of the UK navies, so the Germans need an airbase to give their fleet aircover. Iceland and Greenland offer these bases.

During the nights of 13, 14, and 15 December, when the initial assault force of German armor, artillery, and infantry gradually staged forward to attack positions along the Belgian-German-Luxembourg border. This mustered force, with more than 200 000 men in thirteen infantry and seven panzer divisions and with nearly 1 000 tanks and almost 2 000 guns, deployed along a front of 95 kilometers — its operational armor holdings equaling that on the entire Eastern Front. Five more divisions moved forward in a second wave, while still others, equipped with at least 450 more tanks, followed in reserve.

In 1941 German and Rumanian Armies invade the Soviet Union. Along the Black Sea coasts battles were fought from the beginning in 1941 until far into 1944. Odessa, Sevastopol, Kerch, Feodosiya, Rostov, Novorossiysk, Ordzhonikidze, Maikop. All important battles, fought close to the Black Sea. The enemy will drive you back during 1941 and 1942, but in the winter of 1942/1943 the tide turns, and during 1943 and 1944 you will advance west. Finally you reach the positions you had in 1941, and invade Rumania and the coasts of the Black Sea are once again pacified. However war continues into Hungary. You will invade Hungary and after bloody battles at Debrecen reach Budapest, only taking it after a bloody siege.

Good morning Colonel and welcome to the Combined Operations Group. I've been looking over your file - joined the Army at 18, Sandhurst, fought the Reds in '19, Colonial duty, fairly non-eventful career really. The reason you are being recalled to active duty is because, quite frankly, there is a shortage of qualified commanders and those we do have are spread rather thin at the moment. You are being sent to Middle East Command - Cyprus, initially, where you will link up with your unit, the 1st COTF. You will have a cadre of experienced men and officers but the remaining personnel are volunteers from various nations and of dubious calibre. Not to worry, you will have a few months in any case to whip them into shape. Initially, this force is to be airmobile, light and fast, so that they can be transported anywhere you are needed, and is to be specially trained in small unit tactics as well as mountain and desert warfare. Your equipment, such as it is, has been selected from what ever is available. You will be amazed to see the odd bits of equipment that have made it across the channel. This could make logistics a problem but it is the best we can do for now. Good luck and Godspeed.
