The huge solar spot AR9393

The giant spot AR9393 @ 2001-03-27. It is the largest sunspot, so far, in the current sunspot cycle. It was an easy target with a naked eye (with a safe solar filter).

A CME (solar flare) from AR9393 made an Aurora glow over vast parts of the globe a few days later. In Sweden we were clouded out! The graph shows the huge magntic deflections during that stormy period, recorded at FGO, Sweden.
