Why don't create a point for the Z88? Press any key to continue - Esc or * to stop I already worked at a FidoNet message editor, and so I had some experience. But on the Z88 there were some additional problems: - The room: I cannot load a packet and unpack it in 32+128 K RAM (considering that in those 160 Kbytes there are also my agenda, my phone book, many articles and translations, or C programs that I edit on the Z88 and then I compile on my PC, etc. etc.). Press any key to continue - Esc or * to stop - The program complexity: I think BASIC isn't so powerful to make a complete editor and unpacker. - The unpacking: unpacking a 60 Kbytes .ARC file requires at least 120 Kbytes of free space, before the space is released. Press any key to continue - Esc or * to stop - The file transfer: a Wa-Zoo, or even a Bark session (Emsi? more and more complex) requires (in BASIC) a program rather large, and I could not waste space. I decided to use Z88Up and the built-in Import/Export protocol. So, I invented the final solution: Press any key to continue - Esc or * to stop - Why do message compression and decompression? they can travel as NoArc mail (following old FTS-0001 standard) - Why have we to build an internal editor, when there is PipeDream, which is an editor quite good and is in the Z88 ROM? Press any key to continue - Esc or * to stop - Why do establish an FTS session, when all the files can be transferred with Z88Up (from the same author)? A batch file can transmit the appropriate file to the Z88, delete it, ask if new mail is present, receive it and run the message tosser. So, Atom Ant is born.
