M1946

The early ranks used between 1946 - 1958. The gold embroidery became unattractive and ugly due to washing.


M1946-1

Higher rank insignias that were sewed on over the right breast pocket.


Policewoman

A female officer cleaning her gun. During the early years female officers had more to carry out traditional Japanese womenly tasks like flower arranging,

singing old songs and ritual tea service rather then performing regular police work. Please note the rank chevron and the Tokyo city patch. Collection; W.U.


Different city police patches.

On the blue bottom picture Tokyo can be found beside the winged traffic patch (bottom). On the top: Iwaizumi, Kiryu & Fukuoka. Collection W. U.

Here are two city patches from Osaka. The left goldembroided has been in a washer. The woven patch stands washing better.

M1960

A picture from the early 1960´s. The rank insignias are now placed on both sides ofthe collar.

M1968

In 1968 a modification was made of the model 1958 insignias. These new insignias were slightly larger and thinner then the previous model.

In 1994 a new uniform together with new insignias were introduced and they are still in use.
